One method for identifying a microphone on stage is with a ring of colored tape on the microphone. Then place that same colored tape on the mixer channel or label it such as “Red.” This makes visual identification quite easy…as long as your sound booth is near the stage. The problem is that singers often cover up the tape when they are holding the microphone. Leave it to a microphone company to come up with a solution.
Introducing the Sennheiser Mic Skins for evolution wireless G2 series handheld microphone users. The skins come in nine different designs, ranging from white with glitter to…wait for it…the gold cross design. They cover the entire microphone handle so they are easy to see. Several of the designs are too bright to fit into the worship environment but others could work.
The skins are priced around $30 which in my opinion is too much money just for adding a bit of color.
These skins might look great for youth events or other “younger generation” events. Anytime you change a black microphone to another color, it’s going to stand out, so keep that in mind if you are considering picking up a mic skin.
For now, these skins appear only to be compatable with the wireless G2 handhelds. Seems like a great opportunity for a new product that would work on most microphones. Then again, what's wrong with a black microphone?
Okay...my mind is telling me that I will never pay $30 for 'microphone skins.' But my eyes are telling me, those look sweet!!
