The Signals the Worship Team Needs to Understand

We've all seen someone on the stage give us the up sign for turning up their monitor during a song.  Maybe the guitarist bounces up and down or raises his guitar neck as a signal.

What if the sound guy (or gal) had their own signals...

  1. The head shake: "You really don't want me to do that."
  2. The head nod - looking at the stage: "I may or may not take you up on that suggestion."
  3. The head nod - looking at the mixer: "Now THAT'S the sound i wanted to hear"
  4. The head nod - with eyes closed: "The perfect mix has been achieved."
  5. Hands on hips without direct eye contact: "Something's wrong but i don't know what"
  6. Hands on hips with direct eye contact: "I'm waiting for you to do something"
  7. Holding hand up: "Don't talk, I'm busying listening"
  8. Typing on iPhone: "500 of my twitter friends just found out about what you did."
  9. Pulls at hair: "I'm trying to fix a problem."
  10. Pulls at face: "You are driving me crazy."

Have I missed any?  Let me know!

11. Face melts: Because the drummer fails to utilize the Avion units provided. Therefore keeps telling his musicians to turn there amps up so loud there are louder than the House Speakers!!

glares at video people - video person(s) just sent wrong audio file/click track.

or the "i'll just adjust your DFA"

DFA meaning Does F All

One hand on sound board with the other hand giving a thumbs-up: I'm only pretending to turn you up in the mains/monitors.

Haha! That's a very good one.

"Pretending to turn you up"...I used that on a fellow sound guy when he was playing guitar on a worship team.  I didn't mean to do it!  He asked for more monitor and I got distracted for a second.  Just as I touched the knob, he gave me the thumbs up sign.

Headphones on and Laughing: "I'm listening to the PFL of the teaching pastor's mic during worship"

LOL. done that before. Our pastor has a good baritone though. I've thought about mixing him in with the praise team.

When an SM-57 is thrown directly at a worship team member they have done something wrong. Now if that was a Beta-58 you really made a boo-boo. If it's thrown indirectly the soundman just wants an excuse to go to Guitar Center :)

How about
Raise hands and shrug shoulders: "Somethings wrong, don't know what it is, and I didn't cause it"

I've done the raise hands and shrug shoulders. The video guys had the feed muted.

Hilarious!

I may submit the "blank stare at a particular musician" indicating that "there is no plug-in, effect, knob, or other known option beyond the "mute" button or "rifle" that can "fix" what you are playing or singing right now..."
