Welcome to the new design! You will benefit from it. A great deal of thought went into the design decision and it’s one that I think can be applied to sculpting a mix. Deciding how to mix music depends on:
- The people (age, preferred worship style, etc).
- The room acoustics
- The preferred style mandated by the church
- etc.
Therefore, when I thought about the site, I thought about you. I thought about the experienced sound techs and those new to the field. I thought about what I’ve learned from you from your emails, your comments, your surveys, and from what I hear.
Taking all that into account, I wanted this site to have the right mix for my visitors (that means you and you and you and you and…you).
The new site mix is summarized like this;
- New layout nicer on the eyes! No more dark tones!
- Home page highlights featured articles, the recent posts, and posts in the popular categories of mixing and reviews.
- A new welcome page. For anyone new to the site, they get a good overview of what it’s all about.
- A new quiz page. Same as before, but over the next few weeks, it will be a bit more helpful for people who answer incorrectly.
- You can check out the menu at the very top of other site pages as well including the viral page.
- CATEGORIES RULE: The large yellow bar below the site logo is all the categories of articles here on the site. Articles are still tagged and you can still search for them. However, the overall site feel is category-driven.
- Simplicity! The three-tab sidebar takes care of the popular posts, recent posts, and comments no matter what page you viewing.
Special thanks
Also, I have to say thanks to two people for their help.
First, Daniel Abell for his assistance in the 2011 site re-design. Without his help, the site re-design would not have the polished feel that is the result of his help and analysis. I suggest him for anyone looking for graphic design help.
Second, Michael Lee for the great profile photos and other photos you see on the major pages on this site (Contact, About, Welcome.) Michael took these shots of me and the church when he came for a visit. Anyone in Indiana should contact him for any professional photography needs.
Final Points (more like random semi-related sentence)
- I’m still working on a couple of projects includes version 2 of the video.
- I’m really liking Google+ and have been using it to post audio-related stuff so please add me to your google+ circle
- If you experience any bugs/problems with the site, please let me know via the contact page or g+ or twitter.
- Upcoming in-depth reviews of several books by Focal Press.
- BUT MOST OF ALL…I’m looking forwards to the future of this site and being in community with all of you.
God Bless,
Chris

Dear Chris,
Praise GOD!
You are doing a great job! GOD Bless You!
The new look on this website is fantastic and it keeps getting better. Your excellent sacrifice in providing sound information in this industry is worth a big thumbs-up!
Congratulations!
Thanks Jackson! I have received a lot of great compliments from twitter, google+ and via email. The hardest part is setting it free and stopping tweaking. It’s so easy to say “what if I change this or that?”
